ECHO. RÄUME DER SOZIOKULTUR is a project of LASSA in cooperation with partners in rural areas. The Halberstadt project site is located at the ZORA socio-cultural centre.
Within this project, the SICHT:WEISE format gives younger and older women the opportunity to engage artistically with biographical themes, gender roles and cultures of remembrance. In collages, screen prints and performances, works emerge that take up personal experiences and make new perspectives visible. Artistic practice creates spaces for reflection, expression and exchange beyond conventional attributions.
The project is led by the freelance artist Ilka Leukefeld. With her many years of experience in designing and running artistic workshops, she brings a wide range of methods and approaches to the work. She supports the participants in exploring their own perspectives and experiences in individual and sometimes unfamiliar ways, and in giving them creative form.
At the centre are participatory processes that strengthen individual creativity while also fostering shared experience and social connection. In an open working environment, spaces emerge for experimental work, for reflecting on one’s own biography, and for a dialogue that goes beyond verbal exchange.
The artistic engagement with women’s themes forms the thematic core of SICHT:WEISE. In intergenerational workshops the participants develop works that open up different perspectives on gender roles, bodies, biographies and social expectations. In doing so, it becomes visible how women act, shape and position themselves, past and present.
The individual artistic techniques offer different approaches: screen printing allows experimental work with image and text motifs and opens up ways to make social norms visible and to develop new narratives. In performative formats the participants engage physically and expressively with women’s lived realities and create spaces for encounter and collective experience. Collages combine different materials and media and serve as surfaces for reflecting on personal and social questions.
In this way SICHT:WEISE becomes a living space for creative self-empowerment, cultural education and critical reflection. Art, social participation and individual forms of expression are brought together and placed in a shared context.
The works created in the project are finally presented in an exhibition. It makes both the artistic results and the processes behind them visible. Screen prints are shown among other things as large-format posters and textile works and shape the exhibition space visually. Collages appear as wall installations and are complemented by photographic, textual and material elements that make individual and collective engagement comprehensible. Video and audio recordings document the performative works and convey their physical and temporal dimension. In addition, live performances or performative readings may take place, extending the dialogic character of the project into the exhibition space.
In this way SICHT:WEISE can be experienced not only as an exhibition but as an open space for encounter, discussion and artistic impulses, inviting engagement with gender roles and social structures.
